FAQs

Does a seminar consist of only lectures?

No! We do more than lecture to you. In a typical seminar we WILL do some lecturing at the beginning of the hour, to get the main ideas on the table. This portion can be as short as 8 to 10 minutes or as long as 25 to 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the subject. We spend the remainder of the time available interacting with the audience via questions/answers and guided discussions. We expect you will have questions and look forward to them.

Do I have to take notes?

This is not a college class; you don't have to take notes. We will provide you with a notepad so you can capture those quick ideas and questions that always occur to you during an event like this. And we will suggest some additional areas for thought by you. But we do NOT recommend extensive note-taking. Our lessons move fast; your time is better spent on attentive listening, with only an occasional quick note taken as a memory jogger.

What is the learning environment in the room?

We want the environment in the room to be fun. A learning environment which is fun does NOT reduce the rigor of the material taught. Stay relaxed. We do expect and require civility and common courtesy when addressing a speaker or a fellow client in the audience.

What if I disagree with the speaker?

You probably WILL disagree, once in a while. Leadership is not cut and dried. If it were, you wouldn't be coming to a seminar. A main reason for the interactive portion of our seminars is to give our associates a chance to hear from you about your own experiences. Our only requirement during such discussion is a respect for civility and common courtesy, both to our associates and to your fellow clients.

Is there a dress code?

For our Business Solutions and seminars held at your company, your company's policies on dress and appearance will apply.

Unless your company's policy dictates a stricter dress code, "business casual" is fine. We don't think shorts, muscle shirts, tank tops, or the latest T-shirt from your favorite team quite measure up. Here's a good way to put it: Dress as you would in most companies if today was the day you needed to meet a very important client.

Are recording devices allowed?

We don't want you to use video cameras or audio recorders because they are often distracting or disruptive. We remind you that all of The LeaderMaker Group's material is copyrighted and all rights are reserved.

What happens if the projector in the room fails?

We don't care! We don't know when it was first written that all learning stops when PowerPoint goes away. You will quickly discover that we are NOT PowerPoint puppets. We use slides appropriately to reinforce a particular thought or question. But we don't use slides as our script!

What if I have a last-minute conflict and cannot attend?

For our Business Solutions: If your employer has scheduled you for one of our seminars, you will need to work through your employer's channels. In general, the fees for your particular slot are non-refundable. Your employer may choose to send someone else in your place or to allow your seat to go vacant.
